The Bad Sleep Well.

I Recently saw The Bad Sleep Well. That movie is super dark. I've seen a lot of dark movies, but that one really caught me off guard. Obviously most people know Kurasawa for his Samurai films, but the man can direct a gangster picture. Being a japanese film made in 1960 I'm not sure that it can be really classified as noir, but thats exactly what it is. Honestly I feel that most of my favorite noir films can't technically be defined as noir. What's up with that? Someone needs to invent a standard system of classification for the noir genre.
